Free eBooks Bonanza!

Posted on Updated on

For the next few days I’m running a free book promotion with Amazon, which means you can read a selection of six of my ebooks for nothing!

Why? Well, mainly because I’d like to get more people reading what I’ve written, and what better way to do it than to give out a heap of freebies.

From now until about Tuesday next week you’ll be able to grab these six books from Amazon for nothing.

So what are the books? They’re a selection of five of my short stories as well as Boneyards – book 1 of the FTW series. Follow the links below to Amazon.com, and happy reading!

What’s in a name? (Part 2)

Posted on Updated on

A few weeks ago I had a post about pseudonyms and why I chose one. Part 2 of this is todays blog about character names and where they come from.

I’ve always liked the everyday-yet-different sounding names used in classic sci-fi by the likes of Philip K. Dick (Milton Lumley, Talbot Yancy, Rachmael ben Applebaum to name a few), George R. Stewart (Isherwood Williams in Earth Abides), and Douglas Adams (Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Fenchurch from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy).

So it’s often when I’m coming up with a character name I try for the everyday-yet-different kind of name. Not always, but if the need is there then I’ll go that way. Finsbury Park, for example, stuck out as a great character name the second I saw it on a map of London, and it rings true with my favourite way of naming. Similar to Fenchurch in a way though Finsbury wasn’t conceived there. Read the rest of this entry »

Bonus – Storm View Review

Posted on Updated on

Thought I’d post a bonus quick blog this week because I’ve received a fantastic first review of Storm View. All disclaimers in place, it was from my sister. But she’s not one to pull punches, so I don’t expect favourable reviews just because we’re related. If she thinks it’s shit she’d tell me in so many words.

So forgoing the pomp and ceremony here is the first review ever posted about Storm View! Read the rest of this entry »

Into the top 100

Posted on Updated on

Actually that’s a bit misleading.

Over the weekend I did a free giveaway of Storm View on Amazon. There hadn’t been much movement on it recently and thought a giveaway could get it into a few extra hands and maybe score a review. So far nobody has posted a review, but if they’re anything like me I’ll grab a book when I see it and it might sit in my “To Read” list for ages depending on how many I have in front of it. Hopefully I’ll get a couple of reviews eventually, if not well c’est la vie. Read the rest of this entry »

Storm View Goes Live!

Posted on Updated on

Alt-Storm-View-Cover-211-300It’s been a busy couple of days for me. After publishing Biggy Piggy (my picture book for kids), I got to work finalising the cover for Storm View.

I’m happy to announce that as of this morning my first short story “Storm View” is now published!

Blurb

On the space station Storm View, Artie Snell is your typical hard-working thug / loan shark, with a distinct advantage. An indestructible body shaped like an artillery shell. Everyone knows better than to mess with him. Read the rest of this entry »
