This is the story of a true Viking hero you won’t learn in schools. Gustav the Great. Gustav the Powerful. Gustav the Dragon Slayer. A story so fantastic and shocking not even the History Channel would dare turn it into a TV series.

Every word of it is true. Totally true. How do I know? Because it’s all about me. Gustav Gustavson – Legendary Viking Warrior.

Experience the awesomeness of my unexpected voyage to an undiscovered land where I survive shipwrecks, arena death match spectacles, rampaging rhinoceraptors, naked and rather surly giants, and even dragons! Well, a dragon… all in my pursuit of fame and glory.

"Hilarious in the vein of Monty Python"

I had heard many great things about this book but was hesitant because it is not my typical genre. I am very glad to say that I was not disappointed.

This book is very, very funny but with a heart of gold. For all of Gustav Gustavson’s bragging and almost narcissistic behavior, he genuinely cares about others and uses his quit wit and dumb luck to help others and save the day. He is loyal, almost to a fault but is very aware of his responsibilities to those he is on his quest with. I much appreciated that level of depth that was added to the character.

Basil Sands did an outstanding job of narrating the story. One would be hard pressed to find a narrator who can do the material justice.

I requested a free preview copy of this audiobook and I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

I'm not going to summarise the story, because in all honesty, it's way better to go into this with no prior knowledge!!

This was such a fun and entertaining read!! Gustav was absolutely hilarious. He thinks of himself as the best at everything and he thinks everyone knows him or has at least heard of him and his greatness. Despite him being so cocky, he is still a very likable character because it isn't a brashy cockiness, it's more that he is so sure of his abilities and himself and doesn't care what anyone else thinks.

This was also packed with adventure and different creatures. Gustav even manages to find himself in the midst of naked giants, being put into a fight to the death and also facing a dragon, all of which is no problem for the majestic Gustav!!

In all, this was an easy book to listen to and one that had me smiling the whole way through. I really really hope we get more adventures from Gustav!

The story may have been great, but the performance by Basil Sands was phenomena! He nailed Gustav and his innocent attitude. His tones and accents were brilliant and made for effortless listening. He brought this book to life!! It sounded like he had fun with this book too because you could hear the humour in his voice.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

"A Terrific Tale on Par with Monty Python"

Morgan Hobbes has created a wonderfully enchanting and engaging world. Gustav Gustavson is undoubtedly history's most legendary Viking Warrior, or so Gustav himself tells us. Mr. Hobbes has written a world so vivid, that you actually feel as if you're on these amazing journeys with Gustav and his band of unlikely heroes. I would absolutely love more!! In the same style as the best Monty Python, I can actually see this tale as a movie.

As for Basil Sands' performance, I can sum it up in one word: Absolutely Fantastic and mesmerizing (OK, that's more than one, so sue me). Mr. Sands gives such life to this book that it's not hard to see why he's one of the best. He's a natural storyteller and performs the text with great character. Every single character in this book is brought to live in the most vivid way possible. This book is full of great humor, and Basil delivers that humor so naturally, that sometimes you have to back up the book to see if what you heard, you heard correctly! Without missing a beat! Morgan Hobbes and Basil Sands: an entertaining match made in Valhalla. If it were possible to give both 10 stars, I would.

From the Author:

Gustav Gustavson, Legendary Viking Warrior, approached me in early 2017 to write his biography. I jumped at the chance, for how could I pass up such a fantastic opportunity?

Him being a large and intimidating Viking had little bearing on me readily agreeing to be the author of his tale. His entire life is one of awesome and wonder, inexplicably erased from history by jealous rivals.

This book will help set the record straight once and for all. What you’ll read here is his story in his own words. I was the mere conduit through which his fantastical words flowed.

It may read like a mash-up of Viking lore, comedic fantasy, and a little bit of Dungeons and Dragons, but he assures me every word of it is true.
