Whisky Tasting

Anyone who knows me knows I love a good whisky. I was inspired to write this after recently buying one and reading the back of box it came in. I have to assume the back of the bottles and boxes aren’t lying to me and there are people who can distinguish a dozen distinct flavours in a glass of whisky. I for one cannot and frankly I have a hard time believing that anyone can. I mean take the following...

Found Things

Most people know the old joke about kids, how you can buy them the best toy or one they’ve been after forever and most of the time they’ll get as much enjoyment, if not more, from playing with the empty box. Same thing goes for found things, apparently. I’m writing this because today I was reminded of something that happened just a few days after last Christmas. I had just picked up my youngest from her cot and she cried out...

Flash Fiction | Drowning (A to Z Challenge)

Alone she lay underwater. Bubbles rose to the surface. Cold water engulfed her. Death would arrive soon. Every moment of life flashing by. Fish startling as she thrashed. Gone was hope of survival. Holding her belly. Infant inside she would never know. Justice she hoped would come. Killers deserve it more than most. Lovers who lie maybe more so. Murdering those they once loved. No more after this would she suffer. One last thing, couldn’t hurt to try. Pray hard...

Flash Fiction | Djinn and Tonic

So while I let it percolate away in my subconscious, here’s a little bit of fun which doubles as a bonus blog entry for this week. Djinn and Tonic “Don’t you ever get bored?” Tonic asked the Djinni. “Sometimes, I guess,” the...

Flash Fiction | The Swarm

I wrote a piece of flash fiction while procrastinating instead of concentrating on my other works in progress. I’d been having trouble with a particular scene, so to take my mind off it I started reading a lot of flash fiction online. After reading many great stories online I was impressed at how much information could be packed into so few words, so I sat down and started typing the first thing that came to mind in an attempt to create...

Biggy Piggy by Morgan Hobbes - Cover Image

Biggy Piggy Now Available!

Today I hit the “Publish” button on Amazon’s KDP site and launched Biggy Piggy into the world. Around six hours later I received notification that Amazon had finished publishing it to all of their various regional sites so it’s official! It’s the first book of any kind that I’ve ever published to the outside world (not counting training manuals and other materials I’ve made during my day job). Biggy Piggy is a children’s book about the adventures of a magic pig...
