Bite Me (Update)

A while ago I posted I was free writing some zombie fiction to help get the old creative juices flowing. Well, I’ve been working on it steadily again over the last few weeks after fleshing out the plot. Originally, it was just an exercise in writing with no real direction.

Now though it has a plot and direction for me to take it. There are still some minor holes and directional questions I need to work through, but the meat of what I need is there. The first draft is now sitting and just a little over 30,000 words and I’m maybe around half way through if I had to put a number on it.

The Story

So it’s most definitely a zombie comedy, but also with vampires! Kind of a blend of both worlds. Since it’s all still a work in progress I don’t want to give to much away right now, but it follows the life of Zoey who missed the zombie apocalypse arrived because she was hungover.

Zoey has spent most of her life being told she wasn’t as a good as her high-achieving twin sister. It’s given her a sharp-tongue, and a penchant for being a wise-ass to anyone she meets.

This sentence probably sums her up well:

“Why do you have a gimpy leg then?” I asked with as much self-righteousness as I could muster. I’d be damned if I’d let some guy I attacked without provocation get the moral high ground on me just because I was wrong.

Zoey – Bite Me

It doesn’t take long for her world to fall apart. Zombie apocalypses have that effect. With almost the entire population of the planet now zombies, it’s up to Zoey and a virologist named Callen to save the day.

When Will It Be Ready?

I’m hoping to have it done within the next few months. I’m slowly coming out of an intense emotional rough patch (short story: depression and anxiety combo) which killed off any spark of creativity I had. So because of that I’m not writing at the pace I had previously, but I’m glad it’s all coming back.

What About Audio?

Of course I’d love to get this produced as an audiobook as well. I think the humor would lend itself perfectly to the medium. Once the final story is finalized I’ll be uploading it to ACX to start the process.

I’ve had reasonable success with my first audiobook – The Totally True Adventures of Gustav Gustavson – Legendary Viking Warrior – and am confident my latest offerings of the FTW series will do as well once they’re available.

I’d love to offer all my books as audios, but the truth is most of them are short stories so are harder to find narrators for. I’ll certainly be looking at my options though as I know there is a huge fan base out there for audiobooks. Of course, if you’re a narrator who’s looking to add to your portfolio, and there is something of mine you’d like to have a crack at, hit me up!

Cover Art

Where would I be without procrastination though? As usual, when I don’t feel like writing or just to wind down at night I bust out Illustrator and Photoshop and work on ideas. The artwork below is by no means confirmed or final, but it’s a direction I’ve been heading in recently.

I have pressed the “Approve” button on the first FTW series audiobook! Yep, Boneyards is coming soon to Audible and iTunes so be sure to keep an eye out for that if you’re a fan of dystopian Y/A fiction.
