Badlands – First Draft Complete!

Posted on Updated on

I’m happy to say I’ve now finished the draft of FTW part 2 – Badlands. I’m now busy working my way back through the story, looking for typos and awkwardly phrased wording before I pass it off to my beta reader.

So at this stage I’m guessing at around mid to late January as a release date. I’ll firm this up as I work out what date this’ll be.

While I’m doing the first draft editing, I’m also designing a cover. I wanted one that’d link the two books together but have found it somewhat difficult to do. So I came up with a working design for Badlands, then revisited FTW.

So that’s what I’ve come up with so far. To help tie both books together, I’m also thinking of renaming part one to “Boneyards” to help it from a series point of view. I didn’t originally intend to write a sequel, but when the idea hit me I had to run with it. As a standalone title FTW works, but I thought it needed something more when part of a series.

So my current thoughts are:

  • Boneyards – FTW Series Book 1
  • Badlands – FTW Series Book 2

Concepts for the cover images for books 1 and 2 are below to give you an idea of what they’ll look like together. At this stage I’m not 100% sure if these are what I’ll be running with, but they’re what I’m happy with at the moment.

After I’ve finished my editing, I need to start work on probably the most hated part of writing a book: The blurb. Somehow trying to distil the book into a few short paragraphs that’ll grab a reader’s attention and make them want to read the book. It’s the part I struggle with the most.

Once I’ve got something worth printing I’ll no doubt post it here.
