Last week I wrote how I was unsure what to call my work in progress. Well I’ve decided I prefer “Death Is For Other People” so I’m going with that. Over the weekend I finished the first rounds of editing, so next up is the stage where I’ll convert the text into speech and listen to it to pick up anything I may have missed before sending it off to my beta readers.
I’ve also been working on a cover, and I’ve been having a hard time with this one. In the end I scrapped all my ideas and started from scratch and came up with something I really liked.
I’m still working on the blurb for this one, if I’m being honest I haven’t even started thinking about it yet. I’ve still got time though, it’s probably a good month away from being released.
In FTW news there’s been a slight delay while I wait on getting notes back from one of my betas. No biggie, but it will mean a release date will most likely be closer to the end of next week than this one. You’ll just need to be patient a little longer :).
It’s giving me time to work on “Death Is For Other People” and a few other projects. I haven’t decided which I want to work on yet (the choice is between a sequel to Storm View and a sequel to Finsbury Park) because I’m still fleshing out ideas for both of them.
You never know, I might end up going in an entirely different direction. I was reading over my notes on a story involving a Djinni and was surprised at how much of an outline I had. So maybe that’ll be next in line. I posted an except of the Djinni idea as a piece of flash fiction a while back. Check back next week, I may have an answer by then (if I don’t get side-tracked with editing along the way) :).
Animated Biggy Piggy
As if all of that hasn’t been keeping me busy enough, I’ve also been working on a secret side project of animating my children’s book: Biggy Piggy. I’m not talking Disney quality animation here, it’s just some basic movements of the characters as the book is read. The ultimate goal is to have a version of the book available to watch on YouTube.
I looked into narrating the book myself but I don’t have the equipment for recording decent sound, so I’m thinking I’ll need to check out Fiverr for a narrator to do the job. Once that is done I’ll start work on animating the second book in the series, then who knows what from there. I’ve got other ideas floating around for more Biggy Piggy adventures, I just need to find the time!
Here’s a snipped version of the video. I’ve had to convert it to an animated GIF because I can’t embed the video yet, so there’s no audio, it’s a bit clunky and the colours are a bit off, but it give you the idea of what I’m aiming for.
